At present, the maritime sector relies almost entirely on fossil fuels, and in order to meet the 2050 goals the shipping industry needs to undergo a rapid, global transition towards decarbonization. However, all alternative fuels known today have certain limitations, and many solutions are not yet mature, so there is no obvious ‘one fuel’ choice for the global fleet.
Sustainable maritime fuels have been gaining increasing attention and importance due to the global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
InventU’s inaugural Sustainable Maritime Fuels Forum (6-7 December 2022). served as a platform for delegates, representing companies from the entire value chain, to discuss the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in this industry, and to form partnerships to take on collective action toward a greener and more sustainable future.
The 2nd edition of the forum, planned for 29-30 November in Berlin, will just be a continuation on where we have left off last year.
Key topics:
- Hear the latest on the regulatory developments EU Wide and International (focus on EU ETS and IMO MEPC80)
- What does it take to accelerate the adoption of sustainable fuels?
- Fuels comparison: Investment vs. end result
- Should LNG be considered as a viable fuelling option?
- Examine the feedstock availability for a long-term, sustainable production of biofuels
- See the role of biofuels (FAME, HVO) on route to decarbonization
- Check the current status of ports and their future plans for infrastructure development
- Why is methanol appearing to be the frontrunner so far?
- What is the potential of ammonia to decarbonise the deep-sea shipping? What are the safety risks and how to overcaome them?
